Clubs and Extracurriculars
The Ruby B. Archie Reading Bowl (S. Wood and R Carr Sponsors) is a competitive book club where fourth- and fifth-grade students display their knowledge of Virginia Readers’ Choice books while working in teams that compete in a trivia format.
Students will be encouraged to read all ten Elementary Virginia Readers’ Choice books from the 2024-25 school year.
Starting in October, students will attend meetings and practice sessions in the library. During this time, students will divide into teams, hold book discussions, participate in practice battles, and challenge each other to continue reading while increasing their understanding of the books. The final activity will be held in February with a district competition between all elementary schools
Science Bowl (Ms. Jennings)
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade competed in the district-wide science competition, where they had the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts.
Through their participation, students demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity while applying what they have learned in the classroom. This experience allowed them to take pride in their work, build confidence, and engage in hands-on learning beyond the school setting.
The competition provided a platform for students to display their scientific knowledge and represent their school with excellence.
Math Bowl (Mrs. Moorman)
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade competed in the district-wide math competition, showcasing their math knowledge and problem-solving skills.
Through this experience, students applied critical thinking, demonstrated their understanding of key concepts, and engaged in friendly academic competition. Their participation allowed them to take pride in their accomplishments and represent their school with confidence and excellence.
Spelling Bee (Mrs. S Wood)
B.R.O.S.🧢 (Building Responsible Outstanding Scholars) (R. Tibby, H. Logan, and M. Rivero sponsors)
Goal of Meeting : To effectively plan for the inaugural meeting of the Building Responsible Outstanding Scholars ( B.R.O.S).

Girls with Pearls (Mrs. Walker and Ms. Hall sponsors)
Girls with Pearls is an after-school club designed for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. The group meets every other Thursday, from 3:15 - 4:30, and focuses on helping young girls grow into confident, respectful, and community-minded individuals.
Throughout the year, members engage in meaningful discussions on topics such as personal hygiene, school etiquette, and the importance of giving back to their community. The club also provides fun and enriching experiences, including relaxing spa days and creative service projects.
Students have had the opportunity to create ornaments for the elderly, spreading kindness and joy while learning the value of compassion and service.
Girls with Pearls is a safe and supportive space where students can build friendships, develop life skills, and shine both inside and out.
Meaningful engagement (Ms. Kratochvil)
This group meets every Tuesday and Wednesday and is designed to support students with high absence rates by providing consistent, structured engagement opportunities. The program encourages regular participation by allowing students to earn days back based on their attendance.
Through meaningful activities and supportive interactions, students are motivated to build positive habits, strengthen their connection to school, and improve overall attendance. The program fosters a sense of accountability, belonging, and personal growth while helping students stay on track academically and socially.
After School Tutoring (Ms. Brandon)
The after-school tutoring program is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:15 PM to 4:55 PM. This program is designed to support students with high absence rates by providing additional instructional time and academic assistance.
Students receive targeted support to help them stay on track with their learning while also building consistent attendance habits. As an added incentive, students are able to earn one day back for every three hours of tutoring they attend.
This program promotes accountability, reinforces academic skills, and encourages students to remain engaged in their education while improving overall attendance.
